THIS IS A PRIVATE COURSE AND AVAILBLE TO ADULT GIRL GUIDE MEMBERS ONLY We will be meeting at the Burritts Rapids lock station for a weekend of ORCKA instruction. During this course we will be focusing on boat control and paddling judgement while learning appropriate and efficient paddle strokes and precision maneuvers. Students can expect a strong focus on water safety and will participate in drills and emergency preparedness exercises, which involve capsized canoe rescue techniques and swimming capability.
Students will be provided access to a canoe, paddles, PFD, throw ropes and bailer kit. If you have your own equipment and would like to use it, please ensure to advise the course director upon registration.
Camping is available at the lock station for a fee. Students planning on camping out for the weekend will need to come self-contained with your own shelter, food and equipment. There are washroom facilities which remain open 24 hours, and potable water is accessible. Units will be responsible for payment of their camping fees to Parks Canada upon their arrival.
