ORCKA BASIC CANOEING LEVEL 4—INTRODUCTION TO SOLO CANOEING
This course is for adults 18+. Basic Canoeing Level 4 (Solo) introduces the canoeist to solo paddling. This small group class will have sessions over two days, approximately 6 hours each day. There will be breaks for lunch and theory as needed each day.
The prerequisite for this course is ORCKA Basic Canoeing Level 3 Tandem. Participants must be comfortable swimming in deep water.
This course will cover the following skills: Launching and removing canoes; entering and exiting canoes; paddling position, balancing and trimming; pivots; sideways displacement; forward and reverse straight line; inside and outside turns; circles; inside and outside landings; stopping; lifts and carries. Theory will include a review of safety requirements, and canoeing history.
A requirement of the course is to participate in a Canoe over Canoe Rescue both as victim and rescuer.
Take the 9:30 Ward’s Island Ferry and meet at 10:00 am at the TICC shoreline. The TICC is located just WEST of the ALGONQUIN ISLAND BRIDGE, off Cibola Avenue.

We will refund your money in full should we cancel the course you registered for due to under registration, weather or other safety issues. If you choose to cancel your participation more than 14 + days in advance of the course date, we will refund you your payment less $25 for administrative fees. No refunds within two weeks of the course date.
