This 5 day Moving Water Canoe Instructor Course is for intermediate level solo and tandem canoeists to become instructors to learn the ins and outs of running an ORCKA Moving Water Canoe course on their own.
Instructor candidates will have the opportunity to become certified in ORCKA Moving Water Canoeing level 1, 2 or 3 skills depending on their abilities, as well as earning Moving Water Canoeing Instructor 1 or 2 level certification.
The course schedule:
Day 1 - Tandem Canoe skills review and expansion, obtaining necessary prerequisite skills.
Day 2 - Solo Canoe skills review and expansion, obtaining necessary prerequisite skills. intro to teaching theory and pedagogy
Day 3 - Intermediate Solo canoe skills. Practice teaches, expansion on curriculum and pedagogy
Day 4 - Final skills coaching. Teaching evaluations
Day 5 - Tandem and Solo Canoe skills evaluations

This course is best suited for intermediate paddlers keen on instructing. It is recommended that participants have strong intermediate paddling skills in both solo and tandem canoe (confidence making a variety of moves in class 2 & 3 whitewater) prior to registering.
These will be full days with lots of hands-on content throughout. Mostly on water sessions with some lectures and workshops in the classroom. Plan to pack river-ready snacks and to brush up on skills beforehand!
